Alterations
Get the perfect fit for that made-to-measure look.
Nearly every dress needs some alterations and a well-fitting affordable dress will look better than a badly fitting expensive one. Get your gown shaped to your waist and bust to show off your best assets. Adjust the length so you glide up the aisle or bustle up the train to hit the dancefloor in style.
I mostly alter wedding dresses, but I’ll also take on bridesmaid dresses and outfits for mothers-of-the-bride or -groom in the same wedding party.
THE PROCESS
1. First fitting: Come with the shoes and bra you intend to wear on the day, and bring the petticoat if you have one. I’ll pin the adjustments needed.
2. Second fitting: Sometimes required if there are a lot of changes, especially if the dress has a lace hem that needs to be altered.
3. Collection: Pick up your dress pressed and ready to wear. You can buy a dress bag from me if yours didn't come with one.
GUIDE PRICES
The cost depends a lot on how the dress is made, whether there's boning or lace and how many layers are involved. I will give you an accurate quote at your first fitting.
Typical alterations on bridal gowns:
Taking in side seams: from £70
Lift on shoulders: from £30
Hem at front and graded into train: from £70 (with lace: from £150)
Bridesmaid dresses are usually less expensive.
TIMELINE
Book your first fitting for six to eight weeks before the wedding. Get in touch asap to secure my services.
GOOD TO KNOW
I don't do alterations on menswear.
Alas, there are only so many hours in the day and since I work on my own, I can get booked up months in advance, especially from Easter to September, so it’s best to book as early as you can.
